The Carroll County 4H & FFA Fair

Every year, the Carroll County 4H and FFA groups host a county fair. The fair is held at the Agricuture Center in Westminster, Maryland. This year's fair is scheduled for July 28 through August 4, 2012.

For the past several years, we have been asked to organize a Mule Show as part of the Carroll County Fair. This year's Mule Show will take place on Sunday, July 29 beginning at 12pm. Please contact us if you have questions regarding this show or would like to participate.

Show Schedule for the Carroll County Fair

1. Coon Mule Jump, Under 54"

Mules must jump from a stand still without knocking the bar off of the jump. The mule that jumps the highest, through a process of elimination, is declared the winner. Two divisions based on height of mule at withers.

2. Coon Mule Jump, 54" & Over

3. Leadline

Riders 9 and Under are judged on proper positioning of body; hands, legs, arms, head and feet. Riders should have control of their mule. Riders in this class are not to enter other yout classes.

4. Stick Mule Races (Open)

Heats of riders compete to see who can run with a stick mule between their legs. The fastest time wins.

5. Youth Tortoise and the Hare

Race to opposite end of ring, reverse and walk back to the finish line. Anything but walking back to the finish line will be eliminated. The fastes time wins. Two classess divided upon age of rider.

6. Adult Tortoise and the Hare

7. Youth Dizzy Bat Race

Riders must ride their mule down to the cone, dismount, place the bat on their forehead and on the ground and run around the bat 5 times. The rider must then remount their mule and ride back to the starting line. Fastest time wins.

9. Youth Barrels

Riders are timed while they navigate their mule through a cloverleaf pattern. A 5 second penalty is added for knocked over barrels. Riders must not break the pattern. Tow classes divided upon age of rider.

10. Musical Blocks (Open)

All riders enter the ring on their mules. Riders will ride around the ring while the music plays. Once the music stops, the riders must dismount and run with their mule to a open block. The rider without a block is eliminated. This will continue until there is only one rider left.

11. Head to Head Race

Riders race, a pre-determined amount at a time, around the arena to the finish line. The fastest of the competitors will continue to the next heat, until by process of elimination, a winner is declared.

* Trail Course - The trail course will be held in the smaller ring. Riders may enter this event anytime between 12:00 and 2:00.
